Who We Are

Who we are

A Pentecostal Malayalam Church in the Capital of God’s own country, New Zealand. We are a vibrant church focused on building up people’s faith and daily lives. We are Bible-based, Holy Spirit led where all are welcome. We pray for the sick, care for the needy and preach the Word in a practical manner.
Shalom Church is a member church of Revive Churches New Zealand

Our Senior Pastor Mathew Mathai

Dr. Mathew Mathai is the founding Pastor of Shalom Malayalam Church. He has been in ministry for many years and lives in Wellington with his wife Raichel and three sons.

Mathew’s desire to serve God was fostered by his parents who served the Lord faithfully, and he started his involvement in the Christian ministry at a very young age as a Sunday school teacher and Youth leader in India. God’s greater plan for his life began to unfold when He directed him to New Zealand in 1998 to continue His ministry. While the gates of Hell did everything possible to discourage Mathew and Raichel from pursuing the will of God in their lives, they endured the challenges and oppositions with devotion and prayer.

Mathew and Raichel started ‘Jayajeevitham’, the first Malayalam radio programme in New Zealand in 2001. God confirmed His calling in their lives by performing signs and wonders through their ministry and Shalom Malayalam Church was established in 2003. Since then, the church has gone from strength to strength through developing many leaders, supporting the local community and bringing people closer to Jesus.

SINCE 1998

Shalom Malayalam Church began as a small prayer group that first met in Wellington in December 1999. God honoured the prayer group and performed numerous miracles in the lives of His people.

Prayers became answered on 7 December 2003 as Shalom Malayalam Church had its first Sunday service at Wesley Care Center in Newtown.

2004 to present

We are evangelical in faith and honour children of God, irrespective of national, denominational differences. We work in association with Christian Revival Crusade NZ Inc.

We are committed to preach the Gospel throughout the world and glorify the name of the Lord in all things. We have a burning desire to please Him.

We welcome everyone to attend our meetings.
