Shalom Church is a Spirit filled church located in the capital of God’s own country.
Dr. Mathew Mathai is the founding Pastor of Shalom Malayalam Church. He has been in ministry for many years and lives in Wellington with his wife Raichel and three sons.
Mathew’s desire to serve God was fostered by his parents who served the Lord faithfully, and he started his involvement in the Christian ministry at a very young age as a Sunday school teacher and Youth leader in India. God’s greater plan for his life began to unfold when He directed him to New Zealand in 1998 to continue His ministry. While the gates of Hell did everything possible to discourage Mathew and Raichel from pursuing the will of God in their lives, they endured the challenges and oppositions with devotion and prayer.
Mathew and Raichel started ‘Jayajeevitham’, the first Malayalam radio programme in New Zealand in 2001. God confirmed His calling in their lives by performing signs and wonders through their ministry and Shalom Malayalam Church was established in 2003. Since then, the church has gone from strength to strength through developing many leaders, supporting the local community and bringing people closer to Jesus.
Stephen Mathew is the eldest son of Pr Mathew and Raichel. From a very young age, Stephen had the anointing and calling from God to serve others. He accepted Jesus as his personal saviour when he was 9 years old, baptised at 11 and received the Holy Spirit at 13.
It was at the age of 13 where Stephen’s ministry began. Through visions, God showed him the future and Jesus himself appeared before him. When he began high school, through the grace of God, he was able to lead a prayer meeting there every week. He was given a platform to teach, inspire and challenge his fellow classmates and teachers about the faith until he graduated. During those 5 years, countless lives were touched, he saw young men accept Jesus as their saviour and the high school acknowledged the meetings positive impact.
Stephen went on to study a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Victoria University of Wellington. His love of science provided a new dimension of complexity to his understanding of the world and the role of faith in it, further strengthening it. Currently, he is studying for a masters in cell and molecular biology with a focus on neuroscience.
Preaching is Stephen’s most passionate endeavour. He aims to provide engaging, challenging but ultimately pragmatic and relatable sermons that have real-world applications. Shalom Church was conceived when Stephen was young and now residing in United State

We glorify God for the Shalom Church. We have been privileged to be a part of this church. Pastor Mathew Mathai and family has been leading this church on the strong doctrines and teachings of the Bible. We were blessed with the Bible studies, fasting prayer ,wonderful fellowship and worship. This church has been a family to us where we have stayed together in the bond of Christ’s love guided by the Holy sprit and the experience of God’s presence. Shalom church has grown and flourished like a “root out of a dry land”. I believe this church is set for a great harvest and I pray that it’s mission will be continued in the coming years. Let me take this opportunity to thank God for Shalom Church.
